The 2003 HSFL Comeback Player of the Year Award winner was announced early Friday morning by the League
Office. The winner was determined by a ballot e-mailed to ten people by the League Office
3rd Place-- Eric Kratochvil (11 pts.)- After not stepping onto the Glover Bowl since 1999,
Eric was pretty much a forgotten man by most people around the league. Eric returned this season to play in 3 games,
scoring 4 touchdowns while adding a sack and an interception on defense.
2nd Place-- Aaron Kratochvil (22 pts.)- A Hall of Famer, Aaron had not played in an HSFL
game since 2000, the year in which he gave the league one of its most memorable pieces of folk lore. It was during the
2000 season that Krat played an HSFL game in the week leading up to the Hobart High School Sectional game, despite being the
starting quarterback for the Brickies and against the ban imposed by Hobart Athletic Director Bob Glover Sr. Kratochvil
cemented his place as one of the most dedicated players in league history, but he left to go play college ball in 2001 and
did not play in 2002 before returing to the HSFL in 2003. Aaron played in 3 games, throwing 7 touchdown passes and scoring
4 more. He received 2 first-place votes for this award.
1st Place-- Tom Phelps (27 pts.)- After playing 2 games in 2002, Phelps returned to play
in 3 games, but Phelps scored an incredible 10 touchdowns in those 3 games while adding a sack. Like Aaron Kratochvil,
Phelps is also a Hall of Famer in addition to being a Founding Father. His performance was probably the difference
in the voting between him and Kratochvil as he was a huge receiving force during the games he played. Phelps received
8 first-place votes for this Award.
