The 2003 HSFL Most Improved Player Award winner was announced early Monday morning by the League Office. The
winner was determined by a ballot e-mailed to ten people by the League Office
3rd Place-- John Berlin (14 pts.)- The winner of the 2002 Most Improved Player Award, Berlin
was nominated again in 2003. Berlin was the starting quarterback for Team 2 for the majority of the season.
This was the closest that Berlin has come to having a quarterbacking job to himself since 2000, and he played more consistently
as a result of the increased playing time. He finished the season with 11 touchdown passes and 3 touchdowns. Berlin
received 1 first place vote for this Award.
2nd Place-- Chris Hott (17 pts.)- After a 2002 season in which Chris Hott set an HSFL record
with 12 interceptions, it is hard to believe that there was much room to improve, but Chris managed to do just that.
He was a much more reliable receiver this year, and actually scored 7 touchdowns, improving on his 4 from last year.
He also gained a great deal of respect as a tackler over the course of the year. The decline in his interception numbers
was almost guaranteed after his ridiculous season last year, but he still finished with a respectable 3, tying him for
second in the league. Hott is also nominated for Defensive Player of the Year.
1st Place-- Ryan Geib (29 pts.)- After finishing second in the balloting for this
award last season by only one point, Geib made sure that he would take home the hardware this year. As much as he improved
from 2001 to 2002, his improvement this year was even more impressive. Geib set career highs in touchdowns (11), touchdown
passes (2), and sacks (2). He managed to establish himself as a legitimate player this season, and received Honorable
Mention Pro Bowl honors. Geib is also nominated for Defensive Player of the Year. Geib received 9 of 10 first
place votes for this Award.
