Hobart, IN: The HSFL continued its sixth season Sunday. With Team 2 leading the season series 4-2, and only
two games remaining, one win would clinch the league championship. Rookie star Josh Coons made his long anticipated
return for Team 1, and had his team's confidence riding high heading into their most important game of the season. Team
1 started off hot early, after turning the ball over on downs on their first possession, Chris Hott intercepted a pass to
get Team 1 the ball back. Teams 1's offense was clicking, and their defense looked very solid with the return of Coons,
and they took a 5-1 lead into the half.
The second half was no different, as Team 1 continued dominating. Josh Neace had 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries,
and a touchdown in the second half to lead Team 1. After turning the ball over an incredible 8 times, Team 2 suffered
the worst defeat in HSFL history by a final score of 10-3.
The return of Josh Coons was the wild card that Team 1 had been missing for the past 4 games, where they competed, but
could only pull out 1 victory. Coons scored two touchdowns in his return, but his impact was felt mostly on the defensive
side of the ball, where he helped shut down Team 2's lethal running game and force them to pass the ball. Bob Glover
finally looked like the player he was last year, throwing for 5 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also ran for 3 touchdowns,
two of which were long runs from inside his own third of the field. Josh Neace continued his great season, scoring 3
touchdowns, while adding 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. Chris Hott set an HSFL single game record with 4 interceptions,
matching last year's league leading total in one game. Hott also had a touchdown reception. Kenny Williams had
a solid game on both sides of the ball for Team 1, after missing the start of the game due to his flag football league.
John Berlin was used sparingly for Team 1, but did have a touchdown reception in the win.
The lone bright spot for Team 2 in Week 11 was Rookie of the Year favorite Justin Sawicki. Sawicki scored all 3
of his team's touchdowns to add to his league leading total. Jeff Renn was slowed by a combination of the return of
Coons, a Basketball tournament this weekend, and taking about half of the snaps at quarterback. He had 2 touchdown passes
in the loss. Mike Arana split quarterbacking duties with Renn, and he threw the other touchdown pass. His defense
looked good again, tackling everything that came his way, and adding an interception. Ryan Geib continued to play well
and is being utilized more in his team's offense as of late. Geib had an interception. Jake Cleek contributed
about as much on offense as Geib did for Team 2. Brian Potts played his second straight game for Team 2, used as
a blocker and defensive specialist making a few tackles.
The season series now stands with Team 2 on top 4-3, with a tie at stake in the season finale over Thanksgiving Break.
